Cuban Five Families in Geneva

Havana, Sep 23, 2006. (Prensa Latina) Relatives of the Five Cuban Anti-terrorists unfairly jailed in the US exposed their case at the UN Human Rights Commission in Geneva, Switzerland.

Granma on-line says Magaly Llort, mother of Fernando Gonzalez, and Adriana Perez, wife of Gerardo Hernandez, along with family Attorney Nuris Pinero, exposed the violations plaguing the case.

This is the fourth time in which the case has been submitted to the UNHRC, this time to Yakin Erturk, rapporteur for Violence against Women, and Leandro Despouy for Independence of Judges and Attorneys.

The relatives also received support from the Swiss Committee for the Release of the Cuban Five.

The FBI arrested on Sep 12, 1998, Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero and Rene Gonzalez, after penetrating south Florida terrorist groups, which have perpetrated countless violent anti-Cuba actions.

The Five, as they are also known, were given unfair verdicts and jail terms ranging from years 15 to double life sentences at a politically-biased trial.

From Sep 12 culminating on Oct 6 with a World Day of Solidarity, actions are underway in the United States, Syria, Iran, Ecuador, Portugal, Kazakhstan and North Korea while South Africa's Labor Union (COSATU) just passed a resolution for the immediate release of the Five.
