People's Democracy dedicates its first edition of the year to homage to the Cuban Revolution
INDIA, January 21, 2009. The official spokesman of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Indian weekly publication “People's Democracy”, dedicated its first issue of 2009 almost entirely to the Fiftieth Anniversary of the victory of the Cuban Revolution.
"Fifty glorious years of the Cuban Revolution” reads the title of the article by Prakash Karat, General Secretary of the party. In the article, Karat comments the different moments from the Revolution, the beginning of the confrontation between Cuba and the United States since the victory of the Revolution. He comments about the futile efforts carried out by Washington to overthrow the Cuban Revolution and also about the solidarity shown by the Indian people in the hard moments of the special period. The communist Indian leader concludes the article by greeting Fidel and the Communist Party of Cuba and reiterating its solidarity with Cuba.
The mentioned publication also includes features by outstanding intellectuals from the Left; the Minister of Education from the southern Indian state of Kerala, M. A. Baby who in the chronicle titled: “Inspiring experience of the Princess from the Caribbean", refers the visits he carried out to Cuba in different moments of the history of the Revolution: 1978 and 1992, and the solidarity of the Indian people with the Cubans in the hard moments that continued after the fall of the socialism. Baby also comments the achievements attained by the island beginning with the victory of the revolution on the 1st of January of 1959.
The weekly publication included the article of the outstanding columnist John Cherian, titled "Achievements of the Cuban Revolution” and also featured is the article by the important Indian economist and Advisor of the state government of Kerala, Prabhat Patnaik, "Fifty years of the Cuban Revolution”. In the first article, Cherian refers to the impact of the Cuban revolution and its significance for the peoples of the developing countries. Patnaik, on the other hand, affirms in its article that “the Cuban Revolution has been, during the last half Century, the most consistent anti-imperialist movement, not only in terms of its practical confrontation against the imperialism but also in its theoretical and ideological opposition to the imperialistic hegemony".
Also included is the message from the leader of the Left Front from West Bengal, Jyoti Basu for the people of Cuba.
