Cuban Parliament President labels as 'slanderous' U.S media disclosures concerning Cuban Five case

CUBA, December 29, 2010. - Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon labeled as slanderous U.S. media disclosures about the case of Gerardo Hernandez, one of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters imprisoned in the U.S. since 1998.

During a ceremony for the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, Alarcón explained that defamation against Gerardo Hernández arise as the day when the U.S. must reply Gerardo's request for habeas corpus (his last legal recourse) approaches.

In the celebration, presided over by Cuban Vice President Esteban Lazo, head of the Legislative branch recalled Gerardo Hernández was sentenced with brutal excess for an alleged crime that did not even exist.

The Cuban Parliamentarian reiterated his call for President Barack Obama to release Gerardo Hernández and his four other colleagues, Fernando González, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and René González, who suffer unjust imprisonment in U.S. jails for protecting Cuba against the terrorist plans of U.S. based anti-Cuban organizations.
