Cuba Held a Concert for Peace and Freedom for the Cuban Five.

CUBA, December 23, 2010.- Students, amateur and professional artists in the eastern Cuban province of Granma offered a concert for peace and freedom for the five Cuban antiterrorist unjustly imprisoned in the US since 1998.

The Cuban Friendship Institute summoned musicians, poets, actors, and dancers to demand the immediate release of Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez ––internationally known as the Cuban Five.

The Plaza de la Patria was the stage, on Wednesday, for artist like Arsenio Rosales and Abel Guerrero.

Other artists recited beautiful poems by Cuban and foreign authors, as the Latin American Lord’s Prayer by Uruguayan Mario Benedetti.

The performances also extolled the example of the Cuban Five, who were imprisoned for trying to prevent terrorist actions against Cuba by right wing groups settled in Miami, Florida.

The concert also included students from the provincial art school ‘Manuel Muñoz’, amateurs from the House of Culture ‘October 20’, projects from the Hermanos Saiz Association and the Union of Cuban Artists and Writers in Granma.

At the opening of the concert, boy scouts of several high schools in Bayamo lighted an eight meter height bonfire to lighten the freedom of these antiterrorists.

Present at the meeting were: the prime secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in Granma, Luis Rafael Virelles; Italians; intellectuals; educators; and city dwellers, most of them children and young people. (Cubaminrex-Cuban News Agency)
