Mural Painting Dedicated to The Five in Cuba.
CUBA, December 23, 2010.- Artists from Pinar del Rio, in western Cuba, demanded on Thursday the release of The Five anti-terrorist fighters unjustly held in US prisons at the inauguration of a mural painting inspired by them.
The 13 feet wide-9 feet high work, designed by architects of the project Con Amor y Esperanza (With Love and Hope), is now attracting the attention of residents and visitors in a main street of the city.
The 24 painters, all children and teens with Down syndrome, were inspired by the efforts in favor of the release of Ramon Labañino, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernandez and Fernando Gonzalez.
It is not just an initiative, but rather a lovely idea to dedicate a mural to the cause of The Cuban Five, as they are internationally known, backed by numerous artists of the territory, provincial president of the Union of Writers and Artists Juan Ramon de la Portilla told Prensa Latina.
Founded in year 2000, the project Con Amor y Esperanza turned people who proved to be very original and talented into artists, despite their disabilities.
Human figures, landscapes and children story characters can be seen in the works of these artists, who took part in over 30 collective exhibits in halls of Spain, Germany and Mexico, among others. (Cubaminrex-PL)
