Exhibition at Fine Arts Museum for the Cuban Five

CUBA, April 11th, 2011.- The Cuban National Museum of Fine Arts will offer free entrance for an exhibit of 140 engravings specially dedicated to the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters this Saturday, April 9th.

The Brownstone Foundation together with the International Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban Five and the National Museum of Fine Arts organized the exhibition of the collection by curator Gilbert Brownstone, who donated more than 100 works of arts from outstanding artists of the 19th and 20th centuries to “The Cuban people” last year.

The Cuban National Museum of Fine Arts, located in Havana, treasures works of artists including Josef Albers, Hans Bellmer, Alexander Calder, Sol Lewitt, Pablo Picasso, Antonio Tapies, Edouard Vuillard and Andy Warhol.

Born in New York and president of the homonymous Foundation, Brownstone is a fighter for the freedom of the Cuban Five and he ratified that he will continue supporting the fight until they are released from jail.

In an effort to bring the attention to the Cuban Five’s case, visitors to the museum will receive a leaflet containing information about it on Saturday.

The American artist said initiatives in solidarity of the Cuban Five should be increased as they are victims of an injustice of the US legal system.

Brownstone is also a member of the group of Actors and Actresses United for the Freedom of the Cuban Five co-directed by Danny Glover and Ed Asner and including other important figures like Susan Sarandon and Oliver Stone.

Gilbert Brownstone was curator at the Museum of Modern Art of Paris, of the Museum of Paris, the Israel Museum in Jerusalem and director of the Picasso Museum in Antibes, in the south east of France.

Brownstone defines himself as a man who was born in New York, has resided in France, and holds a Swiss passport and a Cuban heart. When asked about what brings him to Cuba, he replied without hesitation that Cuba and the Cuban Revolution has made everything for the education of the Caribbean people. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
