US-Led Terrorism Puts America's Credibility in Question.
CUBA, March 31, 2011.- Ricardo Alarcon, president of the Cuban Parliament, assured that no US administration will be credible to Latin America as long as it keeps supporting terrorism and keeping the Cuban Five in prison.
It is impossible to think that the US government expects to have any credibility with such obvious complicity with terrorism, said Alarcon at the TV news analysis program "Mesa Redonda".
In his comments, Alarcon urged to free anti-terrorists Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González, now serving over 12 years in US Federal prisons.
Alarcon added that President Barack Obama should be persuaded to pardon the Cuban Five, as they are known in international campaigns for their release.
Obama knows he can do it, but we must try hard to convince him to do it, said the head of the Cuban Parliament.
He just have to drop the charges, added Alarcon, reminding that the US Head of State had already done it on May 1st in favor of several Israelis accused of spying.
During the TV broadcast Alarcon said Antonio's and Gerardo's extraordinary appeal may lead Judge Joan Lenard to accept immediate release or start a legal battle all the way up to the Supreme Court.
He finally said it is very difficult to replace late defense attorney Leonard Weinglass, who was a tireless lawyer, not only in court and legal procedures, but as an active advocate for the release of the Cuban Five in international campaigns. (Cubaminrex-Prensa Latina)
