Solidarity Meeting Concludes with a Call for International Action in Favor of the Five.

CUBA, June 14, 2011.- The heroism of the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters, arbitrarily held in US prisons since 1998 is an example to be followed by the younger generations around the world, reads the Final Declaration of the 3rd International Youth Meeting for Solidarity with the Cuban Five.

At the closing ceremony of the solidarity event on Monday, Liudmila Alamo, member of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party and of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, and first secretary of the Young Communists League read the document, a real declaration of principles and a program of action to break the wall of silence around the case of these patriots.

The release of Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino and Fernando and Rene Gonzalez is not only a task of Cuba, but a commitment we youngsters of the world assume, called by their dignity and heroism, an example and inspiration for those who struggle against imperialism and terrorism, for peace and justice, reads the Declaration.

The text also calls on US President Barack Obama to order the immediate release of the Cuban anti-terrorist fighters, who serve unfair sentences up to life imprisonment.

Likewise, to emphasize the spreading of the case of The Five, the large amount of arguments and evidence of their absolute innocence, the reasons for their presence in the US, the judicial farce, manipulations and arbitrariness to inform the truth to the world, to sensitize and mobilize public opinion, will also be essential.

This call to struggle also highlights the demand for Miami-Based terrorist organizations and the protection of the US government to be dismantled, and the end of impunity for the assassins of the peoples.

Attending the closing of the event were Kenia Serrano, president of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples; Graciela Ramirez, coordinator of the International Committee for the Freedom of The Five; and relatives of Tony, Gerardo, Rene, Ramon and Fernando. (Cubaminrex-ACN)
