Amnesty International Report Raises Serious Concerns about Cuban Five Trial.
CUBA, 27 July 2011.- NGO Amnesty International (AI) issued a report highlighting serious concerns about the fairness of the judicial process against the five Cubans imprisoned in United States on fake espionage charges.
Amnesty International have serious concerns about the possible injustices committed during the legal process, and is alarmed by the fact that the US Supreme Court refused to hear the Cuban prisoners' appeal, which blatantly violates the Article 10 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Mexican media reported.
AI questioned the level of access to evidence that defense attorneys had, and even the validity of such evidence, calling on Washington to revaluate the case and take appropriate measures to rectify such arbitrariness.
After discussing the matter in detail, AI concluded that the process was plagued with irregularities and considered disproportionate the punishment that was imposed. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
