Silvio Rodríguez Demands Release of the Cuban Five
Cuba, June22, 2010. Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodriguez dazzled at Constitution Hall in Washington DC where he performed last weekend.
During the concert, the co-founder of the New Song movement in the island demanded the release of five Cuban antiterrorists who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States since 1998.
“We are only a few blocks away from the White House; with all due respect, Mr. Obama, free our heroes,” said Silvio in reference to Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino and Fernando Gonzalez, who were arrested and given harsh sentences for monitoring anti-Cuba groups in South Florida that were planning and carrying out terrorist attacks against the island.
Silvio played very well-known songs sucg as ‘Ojalá’, ‘Unicornio’ and ‘Mariposas’ as well as songs from his latest album ‘Segunda Cita’. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
