Association in Canary Islands Demand Freedom for the Cuban Five.

CUBA, 22th, December 2010.-  The Association of Cuban residents in the Canary Islands joined the international campaign that demands US president Barack Obama to release the five Cuban antiterrorist imprisoned in the US since 1998.

On a declaration sent to Havana after the closure of the annual meeting of this association, it is sated that Obama should exercise his prerogative and release Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino and Rene Gonzalez ––internationally known as the Cuban Five, imprisoned for trying to prevent terrorist actions against Cuba.

The declaration condemns the terms imposed to these men, who are kept in maximum security prisons unable to receive visits from their relatives, and whose legal processes have been hindered.

The Association of Cuban residents in the Canary Islands affirmed that they will not stop until achieving the lifting of the blockade imposed by the US against Cuba, the respect of the Cuban rights to sovereignty and self-determination, and the return of the Cuban Five to their homeland.

The Canary Islands, located in the Atlantic Ocean, are made up of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, and by the Alegranza, Graciosa, Montaña Clara, Roque del Este, Roque del Oeste and Lobos islets. The Canary Islands are one of the autonomous communities of Spain. (Cubaminrex- Cuban News Agency)
