Namibian TV Program Calls for the Immediate Release of the Cuban Five
NAMIBIA, July 17, 2009. Political Counsellor at the Cuban Embassy Antonio Pubillones and Member of the Committee for the Release of the Five, Nixon Marcus talked to the Namibian public opinion, through the morning TV program Good Morning Namibia, about the five Cuban comrades serving sentences in U.S. jails.
Pubillones spoke about the history and present situation of the fellow compatriots and underlined that they were in prison for the only crime of defending their homeland and the U.S. territory from terrorist activities. He pointed out that they had a tricky, manipulated, unfair and unjust trial and demanded their release with immediate effect. He also highlighted the increasing solidarity and support with the cause of the Five from all over the world and called upon the peace loving people to join the Cuban people in the struggle for their release.
Marcus talked about the trial in Miami, a place well known for its Anti-Cuban sentiments. He said that the trial was unfair as jurors were intimidated, witnesses bullied and the local newspapers exerted a lot of pressure on the judge. He also mentioned the report of the working group on arbitrary detention of the UN Human rights Commission, Amnesty International and the support of the 10 Nobel laureates.
Pubillones and Marcus informed the public about a march that was going to take place the day after and called everyone to come and show their support and solidarity with the 5. They mentioned the letter to Obama that will be delivered to the US Ambassador. (Cubaminrex- EmbaCuba Namibia)
