Puerto Rican Brigade Members Meet Families of the Cuban Five
The 19th group of the Juan Rius Rivera Brigade from Puerto Rico met with the families of the Cuban Five, the men who for over 11 years have been imprisoned in US jails
CUBA, July 2, 2010.- The visitors said that the cause for the liberation of these five men —Ramón, Gerardo, René, Antonio y Fernando— is already part of the battles they are fighting in Puerto Rico.
At the Casa de la Amistad house in Havana, the Puerto Ricans met Olga Salanueva and Elizabeth Palmeiro, wives of Rene and Remon respectively, and learned new facts linked to the case and the importance of getting the American public to hear about their situation.
Palmeiro noted that any help provided by the Puerto Rican brothers and sisters would be very valuable, given their experience in the struggle for the liberation of political prisoners from the island nation.
«Every time we speak, every time we take part in a rally for the liberation of our political prisoners, we mention the Cuban Five. We tell the people about them and how their case influences us and why we should take part in the international movement for their release,» said university student Ricardo Rodríguez.
Milagros Rivera, President of the Cuba-Puerto Rico Solidarity Committee and leader of the brigade said that Puerto Ricans won’t rest until the Cuban Five return to Cuba. (Cubaminrex-Juventud Rebelde)
