CUBA, August 4th, 2010.- Spanish Senator Joan Josep Nuet said on Wednesday in this eastern city that the five Cuban heroes, unfairly imprisoned in the United States, are a real example of struggle against terrorism.
In statements to ACN, the general secretary of the Communist Party of Catalonia pointed out that these Cuban patriots are defenders of the sovereignty of their people and deserve the respect of the international community.
Nuet underlined that today, when many countries maintain a strong policy of struggle against terrorism, these peaceful fighters should serve them as reference, men who showed what needs to be done to prevent acts of sabotage.
Cubans have suffered this kind of actions themselves that have cost many lives, which forces the Caribbean island to defend itself from such aggressions, carried out with Washington’s consent.
Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino and Fernando Gonzalez didn’t go to US territory to kill, assassinate or steal, but to defend Cuba and its people, said the Spanish senator.
The United States should release The Five and thank them for fighting terrorism at an international level, and also apologize for the almost 12 years they have been in US jails, far from their people and their relatives, pointed out Nuet.
The Spanish senator is in Holguin, at 770 kilometers from Havana, as part of a group of 44 Catalonians currently celebrating 30 years of solidarity with Cuba.
Gerardo, Ramon, Rene, Fernando and Antonio were in the United States to obtain information on the plans of terrorist organizations, like the Cuban-American National Foundation, Brothers to the Rescue and Alpha 66, among others, based in Miami. (Cubaminrex - ACN)
