Solidarity with Cuban Five in St. Vincent and the Grenadines

St. Vincent and the Grenadines, 5th May, 2010. Today 5th May has been declared International Day of solidarity with the Cuban Five imprisoned in the United States.  On this day hundred of organizations around the world are organizing activities to demonstrate their solidarity with the people of Cuba and to demand the release of the Cuban Five who have been unjustly imprisoned in the United States.

The Cuban Collaborators in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the St. Vincent-Cuba Friendship Society join with organizations around the world in requesting the intervention of the President of the United States to ensure that Justice is done to the Cuban Five in the persons of: René González, Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González y Ramón Labañino.

These Heroes of Cuba and fighters against international terrorism have not been given a fair trial in the United States and they have been allowed to languish in prison in inhumane conditions.  The situation that has lead to the imprisonment of the Cuban Five is in keeping with the pronouncement of the Government of The United States in its war on terror in that they exposed individuals and groups that were involved in carrying-out criminal actions against their country (i.e. Cuba) from bases in the United States.  We, the Cuban Collaborators in St. Vincent and the St. Vincent-Cuba Friendship Society support the actions to which the Cuban Five committed themselves in the interest of their country and the fight against international terrorism. We therefore call on the international community to join this struggle to free the Cuban Five, and to call on President Obama to demonstrate his commitment to justice and fair-play by ensuring the Cuban Five are given the opportunity for a fair trial.
