Statement of the Association of Cubans in Bahamas Demanding the Freedom of the Cuban Five Antiterrorists
BAHAMAS, May 6, 2010.
To fight for the Cuban Five’s freedom is a moral obligation of every man and woman in the Word who respects justice.
Gerardo, Ramón, Antonio, Fernando and René have been 12 years in US prisons, after they were unjust sentenced by the US Government for combating against terrorists organizations based in Miami. The Five were arrested on September 1998 because risking their lives, without arms, without using force or violence they penetrated terrorist groups operating with impunity in Miami. This was the main accusation against them.
What has President Barack Obama done to end this ilegal and inhuman monstrosity? How does he explain that those five, who have sacrificed their lives to fight against terrorism, are in prison and terrorists like Posada Carriles are walking freely on the streets?
The US President has not said anything, despite the fact that millions of people around the world are claiming freedom for the five.
We should make President Obama change sis stand and end the injustice to which this young Cubans are subjected to. We should ask to all lovers of Justice in the Bahamas and the international community to speak in favor of the release of the five.
We should demand the U.S. President to meet his electoral promises about fighting against terrorism without ambiguities, complying with the law and the legality. It is illegal to make distinctions of good terrorism and bad terrorism.
We must ask the Government of United States to rectify mistakes and to show an example of serenity and humility in the Five Case.
We should ask the United States Government to put an end to the political manipulation with which the counter-revolutionary media in Miami have handled the case of the five. 12 Years have elapsed and we have found that the Federal Government was behind this campaign of hatred and fear. Not only with incendiary statements that prosecutors did before the Court and to the press, in which they did not cease to repeat that the five were terrible enemies whose purpose was nothing more and nothing less than "to destroy the United States." Now, to make matters worse, it has been known that all those journalists were being paid by the United States Government with funds from the federal budget.
We should require the President of the United States to put and end, once and forever, to the violations committed against the five; declare null the Miami trial by multiple legal violations, and order the release of our five brothers.
The US President must set them free now, without conditions. We should call on a single voice for freedom of the Five. To fight for the Cuban Five’s freedom is a moral obligation of every man and woman of the Word who respects justice.
