Humanitarian Entry Visas for Wives of the Cuban Five Demanded in Russia and Bolivia

CUBA, Mar 11, 2010. -  Meetings in support of Cuba in its demand of the US of humanitarian visas for Olga Salanueva and Adriana Perez so they can visit their husbands incarcerated in that country were held in Russia and Bolivia.

The husbands of these two women have been unjustly imprisoned in the US since 1998 and they have been denied their right to see them by Washington, said one of the participants in the meeting of Russian women at the Cuban diplomatic mission in Moscow, the  Prensa Latina news agency reports.

"We defend the right, violated by the United States, of Olga and Adriana to visit their husbands Rene and Gerardo, respectively”, expressed Lena Loshkina, coordinator of the Russian National Free the Five Committee.

She also announced the upcoming inauguration in that European country of an exhibition of paintings by Antonio Guerrero, imprisoned in the US along with
Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, internationally known as The Five.

Meanwhile in the Bolivian capital, members of the Cuban medical, diplomatic and teaching missions as well as Cuban residents demanded the Barack Obama administration to sensitize to the need of the wives of the Cuban antiterrorists to visit their husbands.

"The granting of entry visas to the wives of Rene Gonzalez (condemned to 15 years in prison) and a Gerardo Hernández (two life imprisonments plus 15 years), would be a gesture of respect to the most elementary human rights", they pointed out.

The Five were given long sentences after their arrest 11 years ago for monitoring the terrorist activities of ultra-right groups in Florida, the criminal actions of which, for five decades against the island, have resulted in thousands of deaths and people being injured and mutilated, as well as economic damages worth millions.
