The Dominica/Cuba Friendship Association wishes to join the hundreds of thousands of citizens, institutions, associations, academicians, intellectuals, artists, politicians, trade unions, nongovernmental organizations and the masses of ordinary, fair and just thinking person's around the world in expressing serious concern at the unfair treatment of the five Cuban antiterrorist agents, imprisoned in the United States of America.
In addition to the imprisonment we also have serious concerns relating to the manner in which the trial which led to the imprisonment of the Five was conducted. In our view the process was not consistent with the values, morals and ethics traditionally upheld and respected in western and civilized societies. We strongly believe that the case was highly politicized and was viewed as a symbol of a long standing political hostility between the United States and Cuba and that justice seemed not to have been allowed to take its course. We are therefore appealing to U.S. Government for a fair trial and a fair chance to the appeal processes for the Five.
We condemn any inhumane, humiliating, and horrible conditions under to which any prisoner including the Cuban Five have to be subjected to. In the twelve years that the Cuban Five have so far been imprisoned, two have denied family any sort of family visit during this period.
We who know the Cuban reality for ourselves, having lived there for several years, stand with the Cuban people and all those other interested parties in the world, who would stand in the defense of Justice and in the defense of Human Rights and condemn every form of terrorism whether perpetrated by fanatics, extremists, fundamentalists, organizations or States. We hail the efforts of the individuals who have sacrificed their life and family in the defense of freedom, security, and justice for a better society.
