“I also want to climb the Turquino Peak for the Cuban Five”, says elder woman

CUBA, Mar13, 2010. -  When Oria Silveira, an old woman from this eastern city, heard the news, she said: “I wish I were 30 years younger to also climb the Turquino and offer my solidarity to Fernando, Ramón, Gerardo, Rene and Tony”

Similar views are heard in the city of Bayamo, in the eastern province of Granma, where the brigade “From Aconcagua to the Turquino Peak”, which since the early hours of March 13 is ascending to the highest point of the island to demand the release of the five.

Leandro Rosales, a neighbor, said that “all Cubans must climb the Turquino and I think it is a great idea that this historic site is also the scenario to demand the return of our brothers jailed in the U.S. for over a decade.”

The young journalist Elizabeth Robinson said: “This is very nice and we are proud that the claim for the release of the Five reaches the Turquino, a symbolic place for all Cubans.”

Robinson praised the initiative in response to the Argentinean colleagues that climbed the Aconcagua last January to demand the Barack Obama Administration to end this injustice and called for other countries to turn their highest peaks into tribunes to defend this cause.

From Patagonia in Argentina, and Santiago Vera and Alcides Bonavitta sent a message in which they express their pride for having inspired young Cubans in this endeavor.

We wish them success and lots of strength and hope they leave us a well-marked route for next May when we will take our flag of justice to the top of Cuba, concludes the letter. (Cubaminrex - acn)
