Message from the Friendship Association Suriname- Cuba, regarding the international campaign of solidarity with the Cuban Five.

SURINAME, September 28, 2010.- As part of the international campaign for the unconditional release of the Cuban Five, the Friendship Association Suriname – Cuba, has been organized  some activities from 4 – 30 September 2010.

The Cuban Five are the five young Cuban revolutionaries namely: Fernando González, Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernández, René González, and Ramón Labañino. By order of the Cuban government and on behalf of the Cuban people, these five Cuban heroes had infiltrated anti revolutionary organizations that with the support of the United States of America, undertook terrorist activities out of Miami, Florida, in order to destroy the achievements of the Cuban Revolution.

Their activities in the United States saved the Cuban people from more misery because information about planned terrorist activities against the Cuban people could be reported to the Cuban government in time.

In 1998 they were arrested under false charges of espionage and endangering American national security. Without a fair trial they were sentenced to long prison terms, even two life sentences.

The Friendship Association Suriname-Cuba promotes solidarity with the Cuban people because we owe much thanks to the Cuban people for the unconditional support we receive until this day from this people.
