Call in Uruguay for More Solidarity with the Cuban Five

CUBA, November 29th, 2010.- An enlarged edition of the book “Forbidden Heroes: The Untold History of the Cuban Five,” was presented in Uruguay during a ceremony in which the demand for the release of these Cuban patriots, unfairly incarcerated in the US since 1998, was reiterated.

Journalist Gonzalo Perera, along with historian Gonzalo Abella, made the presentation of the text written by Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.

Perera considered the book as a tool to know more about the case of these antiterrorists -Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez.

For his part, Abella highlighted that these men embody the dignity of their country, unjustly besieged by a criminal policy of blockade on the part of the United States. Attending the ceremony were the Cuban, Bolivian, and Venezuelan ambassadors to the Republic of Uruguay.

The Five, as they’re known internationally, were given long sentences after their arrest more than 12 years ago, when they were monitoring the activities of Florida-based anti-Cuban terrorist groups.

These mafia groups have been carrying out criminal actions against Cuba over the last five decades, which have resulted in thousands of people being killed, and people being injured and mutilated, as well as economic damages to the island, worth millions. (Cubaminrex - ACN)
