Panamanian Radio Stations Broadcast Information on the Cuban Five and the US Blockade.

CUBA, October 5, 2010.-  Panamanian radio stations broadcast information on the five Cuban antiterrorists incarcerated in the United States and about the US blockade against Cuba, the essence of which has remained intact in spite of Barack Obama’s promises of change.

In an interview broadcast by the program Informate, of Radio Mia, Francisco Fernandez, deputy chief of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Panama City, highlighted that, in the case of The Five, the main principles of the due process of law and several regulations included in the US Constitution itself have been violated.

He recalled the evidence of payments of above 74,000 dollars by the US government to several journalists, with the purpose of encouraging hostility during the trial against Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez.

In turn, in KW Continente and Radio Ancon radio stations, commercial counselors Jose Amargos and Yuri Gonzalez stated the effects caused by the economic and financial blockade imposed by the US administration on the island, Prensa Latina news agency reported.

Damages to Cuba due to the blockade’s restrictions are estimated (until December, 2009) at over 100 billion dollars, at a conservative estimate.

The blockade has also been strengthened over the last year in the field of communications, in spite of the promises of Barack Obama of allowing the island to have better access to telecommunication networks, denounced the Deputy Minister of this sector, Jorge Luis Perdomo.

He specified that as long as the laws of the blockade and the hostile policy of the US against Cuba exist, it’s very difficult to break fresh ground in this regard.
