Salvadorians to Carry Out Vigil for the Cuban Five.

CUBA, November 18, 2010.-  Under the slogan “Salvadorians in the world for the Cuban Five,” Salvadorians living in El Salvador, United States and Canada will carry out a vigil on December 17 in protest for the imprisonment in American jails of the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters, known as the Cuban Five.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Raul Martinez, president of the Coordinating Committee of Solidarity with Cuba in El Salvador, said members of his organization, of the Farabundo Marti Liberation Front’s War Veterans Association and church communities will join the vigil in the three countries.

In El Salvador, people will gather for the vigil at the plaza home to the El Salvador del Mundo monument; in Canada, it will take place in Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto; while in the U.S. it will be carried out in Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles and Washington.

Martinez noted that Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez were condemned for crimes of which no evidences were presented and described their trial they were submitted to as “one of the most biased of the dark legal history of the U.S. against defenders of social justice.”

Martinez said participants in the vigil will sign a letter to American President Barack Obama asking him to put an end to the injustice against the Cuban Five and to have them released. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
