Cuban Residents in Montego Bay Send to the Media an Important Statement on the Case of the Cuban Five.
JAMAICA, September 1, 2011.- Last Thursday, September 1, the Montego Bay Committee To Free the Five, made up of Cubans residing in that Jamaican city, sent to the media a Statement highlighting the beginning of the 6th International Campaign to demand the release of the Five Cuban antiterrorist fighters.
In the above said Statement (written in English) it is highlighted that the Five are innocent, but, they will shortly serve 13 years of unjust sentence for attempting to gather information on the actions of the Miami-based terrorist groups. Some of the key moments of the case are also mentioned, including the well- known position adopted in 2005 by the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (Human Rights Commission).
In the Statement, issued by the aforesaid Cuban residents, it is also recalled that the case of the Five has been the longest trial in the American history, and that a battle at the court of appeals still continues while there exist a mountain of documents hiding the truth of which almost nothing comes to public notice. It is also added that an extraordinarily Herculean fight is being waged to be able to reopen the case of Gerardo Hernández Nordelo.
The text of the statement underlines that the main obstacle to solidarity with the Five Heroes is the media silence surrounding the case, and in that respect, some websites are provided from which the Jamaican public can retrieve extensive information about this case. The statement ends by urging President Barack Obama to use his constitutional powers to release the Five immediately. (Cubaminrex-Embacuba Jamaica) |
