Venezuelans March for Freedom of the Cuban Five.
CUBA, 31 May 2011.- Venezuelans from all different backgrounds will march on Saturday to demand the release of five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly imprisoned since 1998 in the United States, activists announced Tuesday.
The march, organized by the Cuba-Venezuela Mutual Solidarity Movement in coordination with political and social organizations, will be held in the capital.
The rally is part of international efforts to demand that Washington release Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino and Rene Gonzalez.
Their real crime was infiltrating terrorist organizations based in southern Florida to warn about their plans against Cuba.
"Let's demand the end of the injustice of their sentences ranging from 15 years to double life terms, and the violation of their right to be visited by their relatives," Rosalinda Chanaga, one of the activists, told Prensa Latina.
According to Chanaga, the march will also reaffirm the Venezuelan request for the United States to extradite terrorist and fugitive Luis Posada Carriles, responsible for the midair explosion of a Cuban airliner in October 1976, killing all 73 people aboard.
With respect to U.S. sanctions against the state oil company PDVS, the mobilization will be also a space for expressing opposition, the activist stated. (Cubaminrex-PL)
