ALBA Summit in Havana this Weekend
CUBA, December 10, 2009.- The 8th ALBA Summit will be held in Havana this weekend December 11-14. Participants will discuss challenges and opportunities facing Latin American and Caribbean countries.
This Summit will coincide with the 5th anniversary of the creation of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas, which started as an alternative organization that later expanded to an alliance plus a People's Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP). It was established on December 14, 2004 in Havana, when Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, and then Cuban President Fidel Castro signing a joint founding declaration
The event’s motto will be “For the independence, unity, and development of our peoples.”
ALBA now comprises Nicaragua, Honduras, Ecuador, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, and Antigua and Barbuda, plus Cuba and Venezuela. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
