First VP Machado Ventura Heads Cuban Delegation to ALBA Summit

CUBA, June 24, 2009.  First Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura heads the Cuban delegation to an extraordinary summit of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA) that takes place today in the Venezuelan city of Maracay, state of Aragua.

The Cuban delegation also includes Ricardo Cabrisas, VP of the Council of Ministers, and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla.

During the meeting, Ecuador, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Antigua and Barbuda, will officially become full members of the organization that is already comprised of Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Honduras and Dominica.

The meeting has a symbolic element as it coincides with another anniversary of the Battle of Carabobo, which sealed Venezuela’s independence from Spain in 1821. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
