VENEZUELA, September 16, 2009. The Cultural Fund of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas (ALBA) launched its first publication this week, América Nuestra: integración y revolución (Our America: integration and revolution), by Venezuelan writer Luis Britto.

José Fernández, head of ALBA Cultural Fund, spoke about the importance of the new publishing venture in an interview with the Prensa Latina News Agency.

Fernández said that the ALBA Cultural Fund will pursue an extensive publishing program. Among the first titles to be released are Meeting Fidel, by Italian Gianni Mina, and Bolivar, by Colombian writer Indalecio Lievano Aguirre. The publication of other books is still in the negotiation stage, including El mérito es estar vivo, by Cuban Luis Báez, an account of the assassination attempts against Fidel Castro.

Fernandez announced that other upcoming books include Carlos Fonseca Amador, under the flags of Che Guevara and Sandino, by US author Matilde Zimmermann; and Quedan Dios y los pobres, by Argentinean writer Alejandro Daussá.

Fernández added that the objective of the fund is to promote the cultural values of Latin America and the Caribbean, by supporting revolutionary thinking in the region. (Cubaminrex- Granma)
