Chavez Says First 5 Years of ALBA to be Celebrated in Havana in 2010

BOLIVIA, October 17, 2009. On the second and final day of sessions of the 7th Summit of the countries that make up the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas, ALBA, held in Bolivia, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez suggested to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the ALBA alliance in Havana next year.

Chavez said that this alliance, forged in 2004 and based on socialist principles, is an integration mechanism superior to all other existing ones.

He said that socialism is the key to doing away with the social differences inherent in the capitalist system.

Chavez also said that ever since ALBA was set up, the participating countries had been under pressure from the United States, with the latest example being the June 28th coup d’etat in Honduras. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
