First ALBA Tourist Group Arrives in Cuba

CUBA, November 12, 2009. The first group of Venezuelans that travel to Cuba as part of the International Social Tourism programme encouraged by the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), arrived this Wednesday in Cuba.

Some 60 tourists, including elders, handicapped and press people were received at the Jose Marti International Airport by officials from the Cuban Ministry of Tourism.

Ronald José Blanco, Venezuelan Ambassador to Cuba, wished the visitors a happy staying and highlighted that this program, boosted by the Tourism ministries of the two nations is an example of the friendship bonds between them.

Lissette Méndez, representative of the Viajes Cubatur Travel Agency, spoke on the itinerary of the group that will include tours to different places of social, historical and cultural interest, as well as visits to schools for handicapped children and senior citizens homes.

They will also have the opportunity to exchange with members of the 120 year Club, which gathers people of every age committed to live over a century, added the official.

This is the first of 14 groups expected before December 18, said Mendez.

This collaboration program is an alternative to develop tourism that offers the visitors the opportunity to know and enjoy the environment, the social and cultural life, both domestically and abroad. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
