Role of ALBA in Educational Training Underlined from Venezuela
CUBA, January 29, 2009. Venezuela's Higher Education Minister, Luis Acuña, underlined on Thursday that the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA) is the way to train people capable of guaranteeing the future of the region.
By way of a live broadcast of Televisión Educativa Iberoamericana, Acuña participated in the Cooperation Forum, held as part of Pedagogy 2009, an international congress underway at Havana’s Convention Center since Tuesday.
He expressed that youngsters, in charge of leading Latin American and Caribbean countries over the next few years, should be ready to carry out policies focused on social issues, a path chosen by several Latin American nations.
The Minister described the Cochabamba Declaration, signed in April 2008 by all ALBA member countries, as a landmark in terms of objectives for a common educational project.
With respect to the continuation of literacy and post-literacy policies, the document also incorporates everything related to higher education.
He pointed out the proposal for the recognition of academic qualifications as equivalent in all member nations was one of the most important accords reached on that occasion.
Acuña praised the opportunity Cuba is giving young people from poor countries to be trained by way of university degrees.
