Channel 5TV in Belize interviews the Cuban Ambassador about the Summit of the Americas Belize, April 20, 2009. The Ambassador of Cuba to Belize was interviewed by local channel 5 News in reference to the Americas Summit. The Cuban diplomat thanked the Government and the people of Belize for its support during all these years to the demand of lifting the US Blockade against Cuba and for the most recent comments of the Prime Minister of Belize in that respect as Chair of CARICOM. In reference to rejoining the OAS the Cuban Ambassador affirmed that we would not join that institution which has been historically an instrument of domination of the US in the region and whose bloody history is well known. The Ambassador added the recent measures of the US administration to allow Cuban Americans to travel to Cuba is positive but minimal and that the Government of Cuba has expressed its willingness to talk about any subject with the United States as equals, and with full respect of Cuba’s sovereignty and self-determination. He said that Cuba will continue to demand an end to cruel economic blockade imposed by the US for almost 50 years and will strive for the elimination of the Cuba Adjustment Act and the Helms Burton and Torriccelli acts as well as its struggle for the freedom of Cuba’s 5 heroes detained in US prisons.
