During the exchange, Rodriguez Parrilla described as excellent the state of bilateral relations and thanked Gopee-Scoon for her country’s support for Cuba against the U.S. economic blockade of the island. Paula Gopee-Scoon said that relations between her country, Trinidad and Tobago, and Cuba have been gradually consolidated since they were established in 1972. “Mi visit here is an occasion to further strengthen them,” she said. Since her arrival in Cuba last Monday, Gopee-Scoon has meet with several Cuban officials and has visited places of historical and social interest. The visit of the foreign minister of Trinidad and Tobago coincided with the celebration of the Cuba-CARICOM Day –observed on Dec. 8th-- which this year marked the 37th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Guyana and Cuba.
