Ecuador Says Washington’s Economic Blockade is Criminal

ECUADOR, December 15, 2009.- Ecuador’s Foreign Minister Fander Falconi, denounced on Monday in Havana Washington’s prolonged economic blockade against Cuba while speaking at the closing of the 8th ALBA Summit.

“It is a criminal blockade against the Cuban people”, stressed the Ecuadorian Foreign Minister who headed his country’s delegation to the Summit.

Falconi expressed his joy on the commemoration of the 5th anniversary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the People’s of our Americas, ALBA, the same date that Ecuador joined the regional integration mechanism, a coincidence which he characterized as historic.

Ecuador is fighting for a more just world and solidarity among the peoples, principles which are the essence of ALBA, he stressed.
In addition to Ecuador’s adhesion to the regional entity, Falconi considered of special importance the recovery of their territory, the Manta military base, a decision which he also valued as historic.

Expo Holguin 2010: Considered the best Business Forum
Holguin, December 15 (RHC-Ahora)--"The economic potential prevailing in eastern Cuba will make Expo-Holguin 2010 the best business encounter in the history of these entrepreneurial forums,” said Daniel Tarrago president of the event’s organizing committee as he officially announced that the meeting will take place next January 25-30.

Entrepreneurs from Chile, Bolivia, Canada, Italy and other countries will take part at the Holguin forum, said senior specialist in the organization of international fairs and events, engineer Marilda Cano.

Meanwhile, the director of Expo-Holguin Exhibit Center Elizabeth Sánchez assured that all necessary conditions have been created to support the activity of national and foreign participants. She also mentioned the local infrastructure that guarantees appropriate facilities for commercial exchange, the establishment of strategic alliances and the signing of accords that favor Cuban exports and the replacement of imports.

The event will grant prizes to the quality of products in different categories and a special distinction to the best stand related to communication activity, as well as some awards received in previous meetings by companies such as the Holguin Security and Safety Services (SEPRO).

Expo Holguin 2010 will show the development in the sectors of goods and services in all branches of the economy, and particularly in key areas such as Tourism, Mining and Iron and Steel, Construction and Computing. The products will be displayed at exhibit stands, while lectures and the launching of new products will underscore the local advancement, as a unique opportunity to expand commercial portfolios.

The 11th Business Meeting has been sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba in Holguin and its counterparts at the Ministry of Foreign Trade, through their delegations. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
