CUBA, December 8, 2009.- Trinidad and Tobago Foreign Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon starts Tuesday an official visit to Cuba, according to a report by "Granma" newspaper. Her agenda includes meeting with her Cuban peer Bruno Rodriguez, and presiding over her country's delegation to the Third Meeting of the Joint Commission between both parties. Gopee-Scoon, who arrived in Monday night this capital, will also attend today activities on occasion of the Cuba-CARICOM (Caribbean Community) Day. Four countries of that bloc -Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago- established diplomatic relations with Cuba on December 8, 1972, breaking the isolation over Havana in an atmosphere of hostility and greater pressures. The heads of State and Government of Cuba and CARICOM, who has now 15 members, five associates and seven observers, agreed three decades ago to establish the mentioned day during the first summit held in Havana. Those meetings have been carried out since then and every three years, to celebrate the date, and review, continue and develop programs of cooperation and integration. |
