CUBA, December 8, 2009.- Trinidad and Tobago’s Foreign Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon placed a floral wreath at the monument to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti at Havana’s Revolution Square. Accompanied by Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra, the visitor toured the surrounding area of the Jose Marti Memorial and received some information about the history of the Revolution Square and about Commanders Ernesto Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos, whose images are located in the facades of the buildings of the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Informatics and Communications, respectively. Gopee-Scoon visited later the Memorial where she learned a few aspects about the National Hero’s life and fights in favor of the Cuban independence. The Caribbean foreign minister, who arrived in Cuba on Monday, will meet with her counterpart Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, and she will preside over her country’s delegation to the 3rd Meeting of the Cuba-Trinidad and Tobago Joint Commission. Gopee-Scoon will also participate today in activities to mark the Cuba-CARICOM Day. Trinidad and Tobago, together with Jamaica, Guyana and Barbados, established diplomatic relations with Cuba on December 8, 1972.
