CUBA, January 21, 2009. Cuba and Argentina’s Presidents, Raul Castro and Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, today visited the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM), where they met and spoke with students from different nations “Nowadays youngsters remind me of those times when the strength of the ideas and convictions that a better world is possible pushed youth to actively participate in politics,” said the Argentinean president. “Today we are working to change our country and to also contribute to the Latin American integration process, in a sustainable transformation that guarantees a different life for millions of people” she added. “Latin America can transform step by the step the reality in which we live and that still poses many adverisities,” said Fernández de Kirchner, who concludes her three-day visit on Wednesday. “In this postmodernist era, media vanities and discourses that run up without new proposes, your example shows that everything can continue changing” concluded the Argentinean President as she called on the youths to keep boosting the collective project that now gathers some 10,000 of them from almost 30 countries. On behalf of the over 800 Argentinean medicine students in Cuba, Camilo Zenon highlighted the advantages of the medical project created by Fidel Castro ten years ago, despite the US blockade against the Caribbean nation. He pointed out that the education of doctors to offer different services to many people in the most far-off places where medical aid is essential, will contribute to strengthening his country’s health system. The Argentinean students gave a white gown and a stethoscope to Fernandez de Kirchner and offered a cultural gala.At the end of the meeting, both leaders talked to the Argentinean students, who thanked Raul for this Latin American project, an example of integration for the peoples of the region.(Cubaminrex- ACN)
