Fidel Castro In Good Health, Says Argentinean President

CUBA, January 22, 2009. Minutes before leaving Cuba on Wednesday, Argentinean President Cristina de Kirchner said her official visit to Cuba had the perfect end with a meeting with the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

At the Jose Marti International Airport in Havana, where she was seen off by Cuban President Raul Castro, Fernandez de Kirchner said Fidel looked in good health and high spirits.

The Argentinean leader added that they spoke about many topics, including the inauguration of US President Barack Obama, the situation in Latin America and other international issues.

Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner concluded a three-day official visit to Cuba where she arrived last Sunday accompanied by a delegation of ministers, legislators, other officials and businesspeople.

Her agenda in the Caribbean nation included official talks with Raul Castro and a meeting with the President of the Cuban Parliament, Ricardo Alarcon. She also gave a key lecture at the Main Hall of the University of Havana, participated in the 2nd Seminar on Business Opportunities that was attended by Cuban and Argentinean businesspeople, and presided over the signing of 11 bilateral agreements between Cuba and her country.

On Wednesday, she also visited the Havana-based Latin American School of Medicine and met with the Argentinean students there.

The Argentinean President departed for Venezuela on Wednesday for a two-day visit. There, she will meet with President Hugo Chavez and will sign cooperation accords. (cubaminrex- ACN)
