Rafael Correa Extols Cuban Biotechnology Development.

CUBA, January 9, 2009. Ecuador's President Rafael Correa who is on an official visit to Cuba, said the country's experiences in biotechnological development could be put to very good use in Latin America.

After visiting the Genetic and Biotechnology Engineering Center (CIGB) Correa said the institution is a model for Latin America as he referred to its high efficiency, organization and its orientation to meet real needs.

Correa and the delegation accompanying him learned about the structure and work of the center and also of the molecular immunology center and of that for immunology trials, all of them located within the scientific complex located to the west of Havana.

Experts explained that competition is not promoted among the institutions within the complex, they rather work together from the designing stage of a product through to its commercialization or technological transfer.

At the scientific complex experts are working on a number of projects of products and services all aimed at raising the living standards of the country, where 13 diseases have been already eradicated.
