Belize, February 4, 2009. The Cuban Ambassador to Belize Manuel Rubido, attended the celebrations to commemorate the 31 Anniversary of the Belizean Defense Force, by invitation of General Dario Tapia, Head of the country Armed Forces. The celebrations consisted in a Military Parade, a Reception and an Open Day at the BDF Base in Ladyville. General Tapia, Hon. Carlos Perdomo, Minister of National Security and Colonel Javier Castellanos, Deputy Commander of the BDF, greeted the Cuban Ambassador and thanked him for his presence. The Belize Defense Force was created by the British Military Command before the independence of Belize, and after achieving sovereignty in 1981, was to be the Armed Forces of the Nation under the direction of Belizean officers.
