Cuban First VP Highlights Significance of Bolivarian Revolution

CUBA, February 2, 2009. “The President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, is materializing the ideas of (Simon) Bolivar,” said Cuban First Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura upon his arrival on Sunday in Caracas heading a delegation from the Caribbean country that will attend a series of activities to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela.

“It is very important for us to be here today because Chavez, as the leader of this Revolution, is a Caribbean man who follows the ideals of Bolivar and (Jose) Marti,” Machado added.

According to Granma news daily, the Cuban official stressed that Hugo Chavez is also a “tireless champion of Latin American and Caribbean unity and integration.”

Venezuela is celebrating the first ten years of the triumph of the Bolivarian Revolution, which took place on February 2, 1999, when Hugo Chavez assumed power after winning the presidential elections with the overwhelming support of the Venezuelan people.
