Brunei Darussalam, February 11, 2009. Cuban ambassador Carlos Amores Tuesday presented here his credentials to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam. The diplomat conveyed the greetings from Cuban President Raul Castro and expressed his condolences over the recent human and material losses caused by floods in this small Southeast Asian country. Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah showed his interest in Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro Ruz' health, sent his greetings to Raul and also thanked the attention conferred to the Brunei delegation who attended the 14th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), held in Havana in September 2006. Amores explained on how the Cuban people are working hard in the reconstruction of the substantial damaged caused by three hurricanes in 2008. The Cuban envoy and the Brunei head of State agreed on the need to preserve the environment in light of the climate changes caused by human action. Moreover, Amores examined with the monarch the possibilities of continuing to develop the bilateral relations. With that purpose, he will meet several ministers and government officials this week. On the same day, Amores called on His Royal Highness Mohamed Bolkiah, Brunei's minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, with whom he reviewed the current status of the mutual links and delivered the official invitation to attend the NAM Ministerial Meeting in Havana, April 27-30. The 15th NAM Summit will be held in Egypt later this year. Crown Prince Mohamed recalled his visits to Havana for the 2000 South Summit and the 14th NAM Summit in 2006 and urged to keep fostering the bilateral links. Cuba y Brunei Darussalam established diplomatic relations in 1997, but do have embassies in their respective countries. The links are channeled through the Cuban embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and the Brunei mission to the United Nations in New York. (Cubaminrex – Embacuba
