Cuban Parliament President Participates in Forum in Ecuador

CUBA, February 19, 2009. The president of the Cuban National Assembly (Parliament), Ricardo Alarcon, said that it is necessary to build a new world and a single Latin American nation, as dreamed of by independence hero Simon Bolivar.

Speaking at the opening session of the Forum of Presidents of Latin American Legislatures in Quito, Ecuador, Alarcon praised the Ecuadorian initiative to host this meeting in order to analyze and discuss topics that are essential for the peoples of the region and for humanity.

According to the Prensa Latina news agency, the Cuban official described the fact that the meeting is taking place in the plenary hall of the Ecuadorean National Assembly as appropriate. It is adorned with a mural painting by Oswaldo Guayasamin that "summarizes the image of our peoples, who have lived more than 500 years trying to find the path to freedom, human emancipation and justice."

Parliamentary leaders from 15 Latin American nations are participating in the meeting in Ecuador. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
