CUBA, February 9, 2009. The 'Informatica 2009' International Convention on Computer Sciences begins in Havana today under the slogan 'New Technologies: Development and Sovereignty.' Informatica 2009 will be divided into two stages. The first one will consist of a scientific event that will include 80 lectures, mainly by foreign delegates and representatives from international organizations and institutions. Then, the second stage of the event will be an exhibition or fair with the participation of more than 140 Cuban and foreign entities. According to Jorge Luis Perdomo, Cuban deputy minister of Computer Sciences and Communications (MIC), one of the topics to be addressed at the meeting will be the coordination of strategies among the member countries of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA), a regional group for integration and cooperation comprised of Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Honduras and Dominica. Monday's agenda includes lectures by personalities from Spain and Venezuela and will also feature a Latin American and Caribbean seminar on Information and Communication Technologies for Education. The computer sciences convention will extend until Friday at the Convention Center and the Pabexpo Exhibition Hall in the Cuban capital with the participation of nearly 2,000 delegates from almost 50 countries.
