Belize, February 16, 2009. The National Direction of the Cuban Medical Team in Belize, under proposal of the rest of the medical team, selected Dr. Modesto Mendez Hernandez as National Vanguard for the year 2008, within the celebrations of the X Anniversary of the Comprehensive Health Program in Belize on April 2009. Dr. Mendez, during his 18 months in Belize, has accumulated a rising trajectory of which are most notorious, his participation in the medical assistance to the populations of Belmopan, Dangriga, Corozal, San Pedro and Belize City, during hurricanes and severe flooding. Dr. Mendez hosts as well, a radio and TV program on health related issues. Although the selection process was difficult due to the merits and quality of the candidates, it was decided to pay tribute to all those selected in the different districts during the central celebration of the Comprehensive Health Program Anniversary. Dr. Modesto Mendez is a specialist in General Comprehensive Medicine and lives in the Cuban province of Pinar del Rio.
