BELIZE, February 20, 2009. With the attendance of important officials from the Ministry of Education, of Foreign Affairs of Belize, and with the Ambassador of Cuba to Belize, Manuel Rubido, an orientation day was held for the 20 new scholarship recipients of this nation, that will be traveling in the next few days to Cuba to begin their studies of Medicine at the Latin American School of Medical Sciences ELAM. The parents of the selected students were also present. The head of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Belize, Dr. Hubert Garcia, made a broad presentation about the school and of their future studies. The students received their ballots for the scholarship and signed their commitments. They also received a conference from a Belizean graduate of ELAM school. The Director of tertiary education of Belize thanked Cuba for this new gesture and expressed that there was nothing that could repay the sacrifices that Cuba was making for them. The Ambassador of Cuba pledged to the students commitment, responsibility and ethics, so they may return as professionals worthy of their people, who have placed in them the hopes of their future health.
