Belize, February 15, 2009. The Second Caribbean Traveling Showcase was inaugurated in Belize by the President of the Belizean National Institute for History and Culture Mrs. Diane Haylock. Speeches at the opening ceremony were also given by Nigel Miguel, National Cinema Commissioner, Suzette Zayden, President of the Belizean organizing committee and a special intervention by Norman de Palm, producer of the film Zulaika from Curacao. Guest of Honor to the ceremony, celebrated at the Bliss Center was Cuban Ambassador Manuel Rubido. The speakers signaled out the important role played by Cuba through ICAIC and the relevance of the showcase dedicated to children and adolescents of the Caribbean Region. The opening ceremony was followed by films from Suriname, Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Cuba. The showcase will be at the Bliss until the 22 of February, with day and evening exhibits. A workshop on Caribbean cinema will also take place. The showcase has been well received by the general public and the program will include the participation of local governments and schools, extending the presentations to all districts of Belize.
