Cuban Technician Restores Medical Equipment in Suriname

Suriname, February 24, 2009. A Cuban specialist in electro-medicine Yudel Torres Villalobos, who works at the Dr.Lachmipersad Mungra Regional Hospital in Nickerie, Suriname, since November 2007, has managed to restore important medical equipment. His work has been acknowledged by health authorities of the Nickerie Hospital.

With his efforts Torres has contributed, with his inventiveness, to the saving of the lives of many patients, and making the purchasing of new equipment unnecessary for the hospital.

Recently, he adapted two perfusion syringes and a pulse oxymeter in intensive care ambulances to transport patients in serious conditions from the Nickerie hospital to Paramaribo, and from outlying places to the Nickerie Hospital .

This innovation by the young technician from Florida, eastern Camagüey province, facilitates the clinical follow up of patients and maintaining treatment during their transfer to the health center in Nickerie.

Yudell Torres Villalobos is member of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Suriname.
