ALBA Calls for the Reinstatement of the Constitutional President of Honduras, Mr. Manuel Zelaya

The Plurinational State of Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Member States of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America represented to the United Nations Organization:
• We reject and condemn the coup d’état against José Manuel Zelaya, Constitutional President of the Republic of Honduras, perpetrated by the Honduran Armed Forces, with the connivance of the oligarchy and reactionary forces of that country.

• We demand the immediate reinstatement of the rule of law in the Republic of Honduras and the reinstatement of Manuel Zelaya, legitimate Constitutional President of said country.

• We state that our Governments do not recognize nor will they recognize any Government other than that of President Manuel Zelaya, democratically elected.

• We urge the international community not to recognize any Government other than the legitimate Government of President Manuel Zelaya.

• We call upon the Honduran Armed Forces to immediately withdraw to their barracks in order to avoid incidents that may result in bloodshed.

• We call upon the democratic sectors within the Armed Forces to support President Manuel Zelaya and his people.

• We demand the immediate release and respect for the life and dignity of Foreign Minister Patricia Rodas, kidnapped by Honduran Armed Forces.
• We condemn the kidnap and outrage committed by the Honduran Armed Forces against the Ambassadors from Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela, in violation of International Law.

• We also call for the full respect for the life and dignity of President Zelaya’s family and all members of the Honduran government.

• We request H.E. Mr. Miguel D’escoto Brockmann, President of the UN General Assembly, to immediately convene the resumption of the 63rd Session to review this violation of the constitutional order in the Republic of Honduras.

• We express our solidarity with the civic and democratic manifestations of the brotherly Honduran people calling for the reinstatement of President Manuel Zelaya and fighting for the democratic institutionality currently violated.

• We express our unconditional support to the President José Manuel Zelaya.
