Dominican Foreign Minister Affirms His Country’s Support of Cuba

CUBA, March 23, 2009. Vince Henderson, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Labor of the Commonwealth of Dominica, ratified in this capital his country’s support of Cuba and thanked Cubans for their assistance of their Dominican sisters and brothers.

We would like to express our commitment of support to the Cuban people and government, with sincerity and based on truly Caribbean friendship, said Henderson during his meeting with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez.

Henderson expressed his people´s acknowledgement of Cuba for its contribution to the economic and social development of the Eastern Caribbean island nation, whose surface is only 756 square kilometers and has over 69,600 inhabitants.

The visiting official referred to the hundreds of Dominicans who have become professionals in Cuban universities.

He pointed out that his country is benefiting from several programs being implemented with Cuban assistance, including the establishment of a nursing school and the services of a medical brigade.

Meanwhile, Cuban FM Rodriguez thanked the firm Dominican position, in international forums, in favor of Caribbean and Latin American integration, in defense of international law and the just causes of South countries.

Rodriguez highlighted the traditional vote of Dominica in favor of the Cuba-sponsored resolution condemning the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba.

These bilateral talks are meant to revitalize the Consultation Mechanism between the two Foreign Affairs Ministries, which have existed since 2000, and to evaluate the state of mutual collaboration relations between Cuba and Dominica. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
